Ships at Haifa, Israel in Week 12 of 2018. The following movements are covered by a friend at Haifa, Israel - Sunday 18th March, 2018. The United States Navy Wasp Class Amphibious Assault Ship  LHD 7 USS IWO JIMA  left Harbour after a 4 Day Visit.  Monday 19th March, 2018. The French Navy Cassard class Destroyer FS JEAN BART D615 called and assisted by 2 local tugs. There are 3 Trailing Suction Hopper Dredgers (TSHDs  EDT SIMI, EDT YAM, SHAHAF ) involved in dredging to depth and filling (land reclamation) of the new to be  Mifratz Harbor .  The 2 small red ones are from EDT of which  EDT YAM  is a Split TSHD which is mainly suitable for dredging to depth contaminated soil and dumping it approx. 10 km offshore.   All Photos by our correspondent Peter Szamosi.  Do not use these images without my permission. © All rights reserved. Ships at Haifa, Israel in Week 10 of 2018. The following movements are covered by a friend at Haifa, Israel - Wednesday 7th March, 2018. The French Navy Aquitaine Class Destroyer  D 650 FS AQUITAINE  left Haifa Harbour assisted by 2 Harbour tugs and escorted by Israel Navy Saar 4.5 class fast patrol craft. Thursday 8th March, 2018. The United States Sixth Fleet Flagship and command ship LCC 20 USS MOUNT WHITNEY entered Haifa Harbour. Friday 9th March, 2018. The 2007 built GRC flag and owned cement carrier ADAMAS   left  Harbour. Saturday 10th March, 2018. United States Navy Sixth Fleet at Malta - 19-22.01.2018 The 1971 commissioned Blue Ridge Class Command Ship  USS MOUNT WHITNEY LCC 20  called for a diplomatic visit from Friday 19th to Monday 22nd January 2018. She entered for the first time after her 10 month refit at Viktor Lenac Shipyard at Rijeka, Croatia bearing different equipment from her previous calls in Valletta during 2012, 2007 and 1999. According to a statement by the US Embassy, the aim of this visit is for the crew to enjoy a few days of rest and recreation and to have the opportunity to see some of Malta’s historic and cultural treasures, including Valletta18 (V18) activities. The crew will also spend some of their free time working on community projects. USS Oscar Austin DDG-79 at Haifa, Israel - 03.08.2017  USS OSCAR AUSTIN DDG 79  is an Arleigh Burke Class Destroyer in the United States Navy.  Oscar Austin  is named for Medal of Honor and Purple Heart  recipient Private First Class Oscar P. Austin.  This ship is the 29th destroyer of her class. USS OSCAR AUSTIN   was the 17th ship of this class to be built by Bath Iron Works in Bath, Maine  and construction began on 9th October 1997. She was launched and christened on 7th November 1998. On 19th August 2000 she was commissioned at Bath, Maine. The ship is currently part of Destroyer Squadron 26.  She was assisted by tugs AMATZIA (Port Bow) and ELAD (Port Quarter). She was turned around and backed to a prepared space that was set off by a wall of containers on Tuesday 1st August 2017.
