SYRIA AIR STRIKES - Saturday 14th April, 2018. During the early hours of Saturday 14th April, 2018 the US, UK and French    carried air strikes on Syria’s chemical related sites . US Naval assets involved were the Virginia Class submarine USS JOHN WARMER SSN 785 ,  the Ticonderoga Class Guided Missile Cruiser USS MONTEREY CG 61  and the Arleigh Burke Class Guided Missile Destroyers USS Higgins DDG 76 and USS LABOON DDG 58. CONTAINER NEWS - CMA CGM sees Industry Rebound continuing in 2018. Container shipping group CMA CGM said it expects a rebound in the industry to continue this year on the back of brisk economic growth, playing down the immediate impact of geopolitical tensions. French based CMA CGM, one of the world’s largest container lines, reported on Friday 16th March 2018 a $701 million net profit for last year, confirming its turnaround after a shipping downturn in 2016 when it suffered a $452 million loss. CMA CGM, controlled by the Jacques Saade family, said its operating margin of 7.5 percent in 2017, up from 0.2 percent in 2016, was the best in the container shipping sector and reflected healthy demand allied to efficiency measures. Its volumes increased 21.1 percent last year to nearly 19 million containers, including a 10.9 percent year-on-year rise in the fourth quarter. BLOW FROM THE PAST - MASSALIA at Malta. The ferry MASSALIA was built by Dubigeon-Normandie S.A. in 1971 and delivered to Compagnie de Paquebots who put her on the route Marseille- Malaga-Casablanca  and also cruises around the Mediterannean Sea including Malta.  Her imo was 7048219 with 142.24 metres as length overall weith a beam of 22.2 metres and draught of 5.5 metres. PASSER BY - Cable Layer ILE DE BATZ - 20.02.2018. The 2001 built FRA flag cable layer ILE DE BATZ  was spotted passing by 83 nautical miles North Easterly off Valletta, Malta bound to Singapore from Calais, France on Tuesday 20th February 2018.  She was built in South Korea by Hyundai Mipo Dockyard at Ulsan with 140 metre as length overall.         Below is image of the vessel leaving Valletta back to 22nd April, 2004 - Photos by Capt.
