SYRIA AIR STRIKES - Saturday 14th April, 2018.


During the early hours of Saturday 14th April, 2018 the US, UK and French  carried air strikes on Syria’s chemical related sites.

US Naval assets involved were the Virginia Class submarine USS JOHN WARMER SSN 785,  the Ticonderoga Class Guided Missile Cruiser USS MONTEREY CG 61 and the Arleigh Burke Class Guided Missile Destroyers USS Higgins DDG 76 and USS LABOON DDG 58.

USS LABOON DDG 58 and USS MONTEREY CG 61 engaged targets from the Red Sea while USS HIGGINS DDG 76 fired missiles from the North Arabian Gulf, and the submarine USS JOHN WARMER SSN 785 was in the Mediterranean Sea of which in total USS MONTEREY CG 61 launched 30 TLAMs (Tomahawk Missiles), USS HIGGINS DDG 76 launched 23, USS LABOON DDG 58 launched seven, and the submarine launched six.

The French Navy FREMM Frigate D 653 FS LANGUEDOC also took part by launching SCALP EG missiles (ship launched version of Storm Shadow) from the
Mediterranean Sea.

Air assets operated from bases throughout the region included USAF B-1B bombers, which fired all 19 JASSM-ER missiles, escorted by Air Force fighter jets while UK Royal Air Force (RAF) Tornado GR4 jet combat aircraft from RAF Akrotiri, Cyprus  and French Rafale and Mirage 2000 multi-role fighter jets also took part. The UK and France committed unspecified escorting fighter jet presumably Typhoons and Rafales

MAERSK INVENTOR at Malta - 18.05.2018. The 2018 built Isle of Man  flagged (IOM) Subsea Support Vessel (SSV)   MAERSK INVENTOR   entered Valletta (Grand Harbour), Malta for the first time on Friday 18th May, 2018 at 0715 hrs. She's the third out of four Stingray Class Subsea Support Vessel. Maersk  ordered a series of four Stingray vessels in 2014. Designed together with Marin Teknikk, the ships are built as a platform to carry out deep and shallow water operations. With an energy efficient propulsion set-up, these DP 3 vessels feature a 400-ton active heave compensated (AHC) crane and two work class remotely operated underwater vehicles (ROVs) capable of operating in a water depth of up to 3,000 meters.
