MALTA FREEPORT - COSCO HONG KONG  at Malta - 27.03.2018. The 2002 built British flagged (GBR) container ship COSCO HONG KONG entered Marsaxlokk Harbour, Malta again this time on Tuesday 27th March, 2018 for cargo operations at the Malta Freeport. DESTINATION SICILY - Virtu Ferries - Teatro Politeama, Palermo. VIRTU FERRIES is a Maltese company founded in 1988 that operates ferry services from Malta to Sicily by high speed craft catamaran. It ferries over 250,000 passengers and 25,000 vehicles yearly. When the JEAN DE LA VALETTE was delivered in 2010 she replaced the 600 passenger catamaran MARIA DOLORES since she has the capacity of 800 passengers and 200 vehicles. Crossings are daily except when weather severe conditions are cancelled. Malta to Pozzallo crossing it takes 90 minutes. FISHERIES - EPCA Vessel LUNDY SENTINEL   at Malta - 27.03.2018. The 2015 built British flagged (GBR) Multi-Role Support Emergency Response and Rescue Vessel (ERRV) LUNDY SENTINEL entered Valletta (Grand Harbour), Malta on Tuesday 27th March, 2018 for a bunker call at the Valletta Cruise Port Pinto 3 Wharf arriving from Toulon, France while on passage to Burgas, Bulgaria. She was chartered by the European Fisheries Control Agency (EPCA) in December 2017  for an initial period of 24 months and may be renewed and the vessel will be deployed primarily as a fisheries patrol vessel in international, EU and where possible third country waters in the different joint deployment plans and other operations from the Mediterranean and Black Sea, to the Western Waters, North Sea and Baltic Sea. PASSER BY - Former BNS LOBELIA M 921 - 27.03.2018. The 1989 former Belgian Navy Tripartite Class Minehunter  BNS LOBELIA M921  was spotted at 1200 hrs (1000 UTC)  passing by 62 nautical miles off Valletta, Malta as a deck cargo aboard SAL Heavy Lift Ship CALYPSO (imo 9512381) on Tuesday 27th March 2018.  She was loaded on 16th March 2018 from Zeebrugge, Belgium bound to Egypt. During the Libyan Uprising in 2011 BNS LOBELIA M 921 was part of NATO's Operation Unified Protector (OUP) off the Libyan Coast replacing another minehunter BNS NARCIS M 923. VALLETTA CRUISE PORT -  MSC MERAVIGLIA - 21.03.2017 The 2017 French built Vista Project Class Cruise Liner  MSC MERAVIGLIA  was seen again at Valletta (Grand Harbour), Malta on Wednesday 21st March, 2018 She was berthed at Pinto 1 and 2 wharves port side alongside as seen in the below image - When visiting Malta you should take a look at the island of FILFLA which is situated opposite Zurrieq. FILFLA  is a small uninhabited islet 5 kilometres   south of Malta  and is the most southerly point of the Maltese Archipelago.  The island of FILFLA  was possibly sacred to the neolithic inhabitants of Malta, who built the temples of Hagar Qim and Mnajdra on the Maltese coast opposite the islet. Until 1971 the Royal Navy (RN) and Royal Air Force (RAF) used the island for target practice, and spent cartridges from these bombardments can still be found on FILFLA today. It became a bird reserve in 1980. COLLISION -  ENKO at Valletta, Malta - 06.11.2010 During the afternoon of Saturday 6th November 2010 around 1530 hrs (1430 UTC)  a collision happened at Grand Harbour when the 1983 built Turkish flag and owned general cargo ship ENKO  developed engine failure while she was going to berth at Laboratory Wharf South 2 and moved astern colliding with the 1991 built research vessel  WESTERN PRIDE  berthed at Wine Wharf causing slight damage to both vessels. At 1550 hrs (1450 UTC) the tugboat WENZINA was seen leaving her berth to assist ENKO to berth at her berth.
